VOLUMES 2015 celebrates independent publishing The third edition of VOLUMES – Independent Art Publishing Fair – returns on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th of November at «Kunstraum Walcheturm» in Zürich. The fair will present a fine selection of local and international artist and art books, zines and magazines. This hybrid event will also feature a range of performances, exhibitions, screenings, readings and work- shops. After a successful second edition in November 2014 at the now defunct off-space Perla- Mode, VOLUMES will take place at «Kunstraum Walcheturm», an independent art space in the heart of Zurich that will open its doors to the only fair of its kind in the city. VOLUMES 2015 will feature a unique exhibition entitled «FOCVS ON ITALY», curated by this year’s special guest BOLO PAPER, who will present a selection of current independent pub- lications from the buzzing Italian scene. Visitors will also get a chance to discover publishers and artists from Switzerland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Greece, Spain and England, who will be showcasing their production in person. The open call international exhibition will act as a sort of snapshot of an even more global production. VOLUMES is a non-profit organisation which was created and is managed by Anne-Laure Franchette, Gloria Wismer and Patrizia Mazzei to support the DIY-facet of publishing and introduce it to a larger audience. «We want to focus specifically on independent publishers and artists who produce incredible work with very little financial aid. VOLUMES is meant to be a platform for these talented and proactive practitioners. » explains Anne-Laure Franchette. «Books are familiar objects that everyone recognises. It can be less intimidating to pick up a book than to enter a gallery. Books showcase an infinite variety of content and are a great medium for artists to present their work to a wider public. Especially in the con- text of a fair like ours where the producers are in direct contact with the audience.” At VOLUMES everyone is invited to discover the production of over 50 publishers from all over Europe, enjoy a series of readings by local artists, visit the FOCVS ON ITALY display, discover the experimental cinema show, be surprised by one of the performances, browse though a wide selection of independent art books at the International Exhibition or take part in one of the open workshops. And why not relax with a drink while enjoying the chilled musical programmation. The fair opens on Friday, November 27th at 6pm at «Kunstraum Walcheturm», Zurich 8004, and will continue on Saturday, the 28th of November, from midday to 8pm. Wonderwood Spyros Paloukis “Wonderwood” is a photographic representation of some of the most visual moments of Greek mythology and folk culture through contemporary artistic work. “Wonderwood” is an original fairy tale that he wrote in 2012, inspired by the Greek mythology and folk culture, and then he photographically compose and dramatize real living pictures. The structure of its fictional and iconological corpus was entirely based around a folkloric fairytale, which effectively translated by the artist in dark poetic scenes, set in natural landscape and man-made sites of Edessa, his home town in north Greece, and its surrounding region. The models who agreed to pose for his work and wearing traditional dresses are all inhabitants of Edessa. His photographic compositions, are full of symbolisms, iconic figures, secrets and magic.
